- Storm 'Alice' threatens the start of the closing season for nightclubs in Ibiza
Storm Alice caused havoc in Ibiza on Saturday afternoon. Several areas of the island were affected by heavy rain, with Platja d’en Bossa being one of the worst hit. Water flooded several streets there and even entered many businesses. Shortly after 5 p.m., the emergency services issued a civil protection alert warning of heavy rain, urging people to take ‘maximum precautions’ and avoid travelling or taking part in outdoor activities. «Do not go near torrents, streams or flood-prone areas. Avoid low-lying areas and basements. If water enters your home, go to the upper floors,» the message read. In the early afternoon, when not a single drop had fallen yet, Platja d’en Bossa was filling up with visitors, most of whom were heading in the same direction: Ushuaïa. In front of one of the most iconic nightclubs, taxis came and went with visitors ready to bring the season to a close. The Civil Guard is searching for the crew of a boat that was found in Ibiza with more than 500 kilos of cocaine after the occupants fled, even attempting to ram a Civil Guard patrol boat.According to a statement issued by the Armed Forces, on Saturday morning a patrol observed a boat in the Porroig area from land that aroused the officers’ suspicions, so they notified the Civil Guard Maritime Service. Once informed, they headed to the location and the patrol continued sailing parallel to the coast until reaching the Torre des Carregador area. Cocaine found inside the boat. The alleged traffickers, upon seeing the Maritime Service vessel, headed for the beach, abandoning the boat in a hurry, but not before attempting to ram the patrol boat.
